Here is a collection of 20 healthy Navratri fasting recipes. These are low fat as a lot of them are made in an appe pan or air fryer. I have tried to use minimum amount of fat where possible. This collection also includes how to make Halwa, puri and chana on Ashtami/Navmi as well as how to make Atte ka diya for puja.
I follow this calendar for dates of Hindu festivals observed in the US -https://www.drikpanchang.com/calendars/hindu/hinducalendar.html
The hindi word for fasting is Upvas which when broken up is ‘up’ which means high and ‘Vas’ which means place of abode. So upvas actually means attaining or reaching a higher level. This higher level is possible when we give up certain food and eat a satvik diet.
Food eating during fasts was meant to be light and satvik but over the years fasting has come to mean fried foods like Kuttu ki puris, Vrat ke Paneer, mirch, aloo ke pakore and fried Sabudana vadas. Though I love the fried puris, vadas and pakoras, I have over the years become more health conscious and tried to make the same traditional dishes with a healthier twist.
