Vegan + Gluten Free Buffalo Cauliflower Wings(Oven or Air Fryer)

These vegan and gluten free buffalo cauliflower wings are so addictive.  An easy way to include some healthy vegetables into your diet. I really wanted to make these both vegan and gluten free, so I didn’t use all purpose flour and replaced it with a combination of cornstarch and arrowroot. The combination of these two flours provide an awesome crunch to the cauliflower. This is a very easy recipe and involves 2 steps- first air fry or bake the flour dipped cauliflower. Second dab some buffalo wing sauce and air fry /bake again.

The way you cut the cauliflower is also important, the pieces should be equal and large. otherwise there will be some pieces that will get done done sooner or burn. Try to cut into fairly large pieces making sure that each floret has some part of the stem/ stalk attached to it, in other words cut the florets vertically. (have shown a picture of the cut cauliflower in the pictorial recipe below)

Any hot sauce will work but nothing says buffalo wings like Franks Hot sauce. Wing sauce is nothing but hot sauce mixed with some butter and a bit of honey. Since I wanted to keep it vegan, I have used sugar instead of honey and of course use vegan butter to make it vegan. Use a little less sauce for milder wings. For a spicier sauce, use 1/4 to 1/2 tsp red chili powder while the sauce cooks.

These cauliflower wings can be eaten without the sauce, and they are crisp and crunchy straight from the air fryer or oven. However, it is the sauce that gives it the classic buffalo wing taste. Do not put too much sauce on the wings, as it will make the cauliflower wings soggy. Just brush on enough sauce on both sides and bake. Also, serve as soon as they come out of the air fryer. I tried half the cauliflower in the air fryer and half in the oven and I felt the air fryer ones were more crisp compared to the oven ones. That’s because in an air fryer the flour drips down allowing the cauliflower to crisp. Below is a picture of the two side by side. Below right side is oven baked and left side is air fried.
