Since my menu was Fried Bedmi Puris with Rasa Aloo, I didn’t want yet another fried dish, since all my friends, including me are very health conscious! With the Green Chatni, Meethi chatni made of Apple Butter,Sev and chopped cilantro,it was the healthiest Dahi vada chat ever eaten.

Even if there is no special occasion, this makes such and an amazing snack for your family. Actually I had soaked a little extra dal for my family and I have been eating 2 of these vadas topped with Greek Yogurt  for lunch. No fat, High protein, Good carbs, what more can you ask for! You can read all the health benefits of Moong Dal at Livestrong.com. According to Consumerlab.com Greek yogurt has a whopping 20 grams of protein in a just a cup! Another low fat version which I make while fasting is Vrat ke Dahi Vade in Appe Pan. Ingredients

  • 1 cup Moong Dal washed and soaked overnight
  • 32 oz Greek yogurt or plain
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2-3 gr chilies
  • 1 tsp Eno
  • Water as needed for Grinding Dal
  • Water as needed to whip yogurt

Instructions

  • Grind dal with Gree chilies and as little water as possible.
  • Prepare 4 bowls by putting oil in them.
  • We will make 4 vadas at a time
  • In a bowl,Put 4 tbsp batter, in it add 1/4 tsp Eno and mix(See Pictures below).
  • Put about 1 tbsp batter in each bowl(see pictures below)
  • Microwave the 4 bowls for 1 minutes 15 seconds.
  • Let it cool completely.
  • Remove from bowl and dunk in yogurt.
  • Do the same for the remaining dal

Notes

If consuming right away, put in water or buttermilk, squeeze and then put in yogurt. If eating after a few hours, no need to put in water/buttermilk, it will absorb the water from yogurt and get soft in a few hours. I like to save some yogurt, just before serving add additional yogurt and THEN decorate Red Chili Powder, Roasted Cumin powder and with Hari and Meethi chatni.
