Watermelon Pana-Watermelon Juice with Mint,Ginger and Spices

Watermelon juice made with fresh mint, ginger some basic spices and a squeeze of lemon /lime is the perfect summertime drink which not only quenches your thirst but is good for you!

I am a firm believer that nature provides us with what we need and that is why summers are full of fruits and vegetables like watermelon, cucumbers and gourds/lauki which are mainly water. Watermelon is 92% water according to Livescience , it not only hydrates but also provides a host of vitamins, antioxidants,Lycopene and essential Amino acids.

The inspiration for this drink is the quintessential Indian summer drink-Aam Pana(raw mango spiced drink). Its sweet, sour, salty, minty and the ginger provides the right amount of oomph and flavor!

Some other recipes from watermelon are-Watermelon popsicles, Watermelon Rind Tutti Frutti(candied fruit) and Watermelon Rind Curry.

  • 1/2 inch Ginger skin scraped off

  • Juice of 1/2 to 1 lime/lemon depending upon size

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients in a blender and mix till ginger and mint are completely mixed in.
  • Serve over ice and garnish with additional mint and watermelon wedges

Notes

You can strain the juice, but I did not as I didn’t want to lose the fiber. Customize it to suit your taste by adding spices of your choice. If you want to consume during fasting, use Sendha namak/salt,sugar,mint and lemon juice, eliminating all other spices.
