Sugar lemon Scrub

posted in: How to, makeup and Beauty | 0

All natural, organic sugar scrub made without any color, extract or essential oils. My tryst with sugar scrubs happened about 5 years back when we were visiting Downtown Disney, now called Disney Springs. There was this really fancy store called ‘Basin‘ selling all natural, bath and body products.

They had scrubs in every flavor possible and they had a row of sinks with running water and you could try out all their varieties of sugar scrubs. My family was visiting from India and all of us just went crazy trying out the different scrubs. We just couldn’t believe how soft our hands felt after using them-velvety smooth is the term that comes to mind!  Of course we all bought a jar to bring home but at $35 a jar it was ridiculously expensive.

After all, its just sugar and oil along with some essential oils. Since then its been at the back of my mind to make it at home. I knew I wanted to make a scrub that had no artificial colors and I wanted to make something that didn’t require any special essential oils for flavoring. It had to be products available at every home. With that in  mind, I decided to work with lemons. I love lemons for their ability to fade sunspots and reduce pigmentation. I use it in my Homemade Face Mask and it is one of the most effective, natural masks.

I also wanted to use Coconut oil as the base for its many benefits. You can read more about it in this article from Livestrong.  My Miracle Oil for Hair loss and frizziness is one of my most popular posts and I do use it regularly. I did decide to use organic sugar instead of salt, because first I had never tried a salt scrub, secondly, I was in love with the one from Basin and I just wanted to replicate it.

For those not familiar with exfoliation, here is a great article that talks about the benefits of exfoliating. So get ready to pamper yourself with this DIY sugar scrub. Give the scrub as a Mothers day or Christmas gift or gift to teachers during Teacher Appreciation week or to any one who deserves a little pampering.

Here is the written recipe followed by the step by step pictorial one-
