Spinach Potato cakes/Palak Aloo ki Tikki with Almond Flour and Flaxseed

Every year our family does a 30 day detox in which we give up all grains, lentils, sugar, dairy and all kinds of processed foods. The only things allowed are protein, vegetables and fruits, nuts and basically all the goodies that nature provides.

After eating eggs in every form possible, we, especially my teenage daughter who is not particularly crazy about eggs, is so ready for a variation in breakfast.Though we do make Potato Tikkis all the time, for the detox, I had to make sure it was chock full of vegetables and also had some protein.

Since I couldn’t use any kind of bread for binding, I thought of Flaxseed as a binding agent and Almond Flour for the protein.

During those 30 days, I do make variations of this recipe at least once a week. Try it, you will not be disappointed, its one of the healthiest and tastiest Tikkis you will eat. Enjoy with Habanero Chatni or Green Chatni.

I really want to try it for our new years party as it looks so yum. Do you think I can skip almond powder or is it important for this recipe? Thanks!

Hi Aradhana, thanks for visiting my blog. Sorry for not responding right away, was out of town and obviously no internet on flight! I make these during my 30 day detox, I don’t have any grain during those days and I need to have protein. That’s why I add Almond flour. You can skip it if you like. Just add some bread/ bread crumbs if you feel the dough is a little loose. Hope you have a fabulous New year. Please do take a picture and share your feedback. Would love to hear how it turned out. Thanks.

hi Mini, thanks for visiting my blog, appreciate it.Our family does the whole30 program, once a year, which is basically giving up all processed food, sugar, grains and dairy and only focusing on fruits, vegetables and protein. I have learnt to get creative with food, otherwise it can be pretty hard! Here is the link to the official whole30 http://whole30.com/
